Divya Mudappa is a tropical ecologist whose work focuses on rainforests, wildlife conservation, and restoration. She studies how plants and animals interact—especially through fruit eating and seed dispersal—with a special focus on hornbills and small carnivores.
For nearly a decade, Divya has studied hornbills across the Western Ghats, monitoring nests, mapping their distribution, and understanding how rainforest loss affects them. Her doctoral research explored the ecology and conservation of the brown palm civet, a nocturnal fruit-eating mammal found only in these forests.
Her work aims to strengthen scientific understanding of tropical ecosystems and to use that knowledge to protect wildlife while supporting local communities.
